Where Does the Swan Hill Murray River Walk Start
The Full Riverside walk/run extends from the Pental Island Bridge right through to the Milloo St Wetlands. We will highlight the different points of interest for a walk from the PS GEM right through Riverside Park. Then under the Bridge through to Milloo St Wetlands.
Along the River Walk, there are convenient access points for both vehicles and bicycles. With designated roads and parking areas at both ends. As well as plenty of parking at Riverside Park. It seamlessly connects to footpaths leading into residential areas around Milloo St. It is just a short stroll (two blocks) from the town’s central business district to Riverside Park.
Starting at the PS GEM for the Swan Hill Riverside Walk
There is plenty of parking around this area in Monash Drive. You will also find Spoons Restaurant, where you could have something to eat before or after your walk. The Swan Hill Art Gallery is also found here.
As you continue along the footpath, you are walking beside the Pioneer Settlement, which is another place of interest to visit. Halfway along is the entrance, and also where you can get tickets for the Sound and Light Shows.
Continuing on there is a hill to walk up, but there is a footpath all the way. At the top, there is a viewing platform where you can walk out to look out over the Little Murray meeting the Big Murray River.
As you get closer to Riverside Caravan Park, there is the Japanese Garden. This is particularly pretty in the Spring when the Cherry Blossom comes out. It is a lovely little area to walk through.
Past the Riverside Caravan Park-To Riverside Park
Walk past the caravan park till you reach the Park. This area of the park is always a hive of activity.
Inside the check-in area for the Riverside Caravan Park Swan Hill is a café where you can call in for a cup of coffee and something to eat. There are plenty of picnic tables around this area.
The Skate park is now located here near the children’s play areas. Where there are a lot of different activities for kids of all ages. Including a flying fox as well as other climbing equipment.
Close to the play areas is a large undercover BBQ area with picnic tables for a nice family outing.
Continuing Along The Murray River
As you continue along the pathway, you will pass an area with exercise equipment. Which is there for anyone to use. Along the River, you will pass the large wooden steps down to the river. Here you may see people fishing or feeding the ducks.
Heading away from Riverside Park, the River Walk leads toward the historic lift bridge to New South Wales. Rather than crossing the busy road, the pathway passes under the bridge, offering an exhilarating experience as traffic rumbles overhead.
Transition to Milloo St Wetlands
Continuing towards Milloo St, the landscape shifts from manicured lawns to open grassy expanses. As the Walk approaches Milloo St, it runs parallel to red river gums. Offering a sense of mystery and adventure for children. This area also serves as a popular fishing spot for local children, with level locations along the riverbank providing easy access to the water’s edge.
Along this stretch, you will walk past the boat ramp, where there are also public toilets.
At the end, there is a track where you can walk around the wetlands. There is native plants and many birds to be found in this area.
